INSOMANIA

This is a collaboration Between Stef Osadzinski and Mark Poysden (of The Self Transforming Machine Elves) and Steve Law. Several tracks were recorded at Lightsound Studio in Amsterdam in October 1994. One of these (Beatroot) appeared on The Bezerk Collection compilation CD. Steve Law and Stef Osadzinski also recorded further tracks in Amsterdam in November 1996, possibly to be released under the name Da Toog. Steve Law also collaborated with The Self Transforming Machine Elves on the vinyl release of their L.P. Bitone (Nova Zembla NZ025 LP, 1995), remixing the tracks O.K. that's it and Kansas. Due to a printing oversight there was no credit to Steve Law on the sleeve however.

TSUKURU

A collaboration between Steve Law and Sayaka Yabuki. Steve and Sayaka recorded some tracks in Providence, Rhode Island (U.S.A) in December 1996, and further tracks in Melbourne in Feb/March 1997. Sayaka Yabuki has also performed live with Zen Paradox in the U.S and Australia.

TERMINAL QUARTET

A project instigated by Andrew Garton. The group consists of four laptop performers, performing improvised generative works, the ground rules laid down by Andrew. Performers vary from performance to performance.

THE MUTAGEN SERVER

A collaboration between Steve Law and Ollie Olsen. Steve and Ollie began recording together late in 2005 for this project.

OTHER COMPOSITIONS

- A 45 minute experimental piece entitled Polar Ice on Ganymede was used as a sound installation for the 1995 Melbourne Fringe arts festival. May be released some time in the future.

- A piece entitled Urbania was the winning composition in the inaugral 1996 Australian Computer Music Competition organised by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. This electro-acoustic composition was constructed from field recordings made in the cities of Melbourne and Hong Kong. This piece has been released on Vol. 6 of the Anthology of Australian Electro-Acoustic Music (released by The Canberra School of Music).

- An electro-acoustic piece entitled Teratogenesis was premiered in surround at Articulating Space (Footscray Community Arts Centre), Melbourne 4/11/2002.

- An excerpt from the work Forward to Nature entitled Interpenetrating Worlds was exhibited at the acoustic ecology conference in Melbourne, March 2003.

- An electro-acoustic piece utilising environmental recordings entitled The Opaline Forest was premiered at E2E4, North Melbourne 6/6/2003.

- A 45 minute composition entitled The Evolution of the Radiosphere was commisioned by Kunst Radio in Austria and broadcast in March 2006

Steve Law composed music for the following:

- Apoidea: a short computer animated film by Alan Dorin (1995)

- Muto: an interactive computer work by Kathryn Mew (1996)

- Signs of Life: an interactive computer work by Mai-Linh Cleary and Tamara Leong (1998)

- Picture This: a short horror/sci-fi film directed by Matt Ellis (1999). This film was a finalist for "Special Achievement in Sound Design" at the Australian Guild of Screen Composers Awards (1999)

- Life Signs: interactive installation by Troy Innocent (2003/2004)

- Chit Chat: an interactive chat room environment by Daniel Toshi Endo and Christian ? (2005)

- The Rhythm of Five Elements: a short computer animation (2005)

Other pre-released pieces by Steve Law have been used in a number of films and TV series

 

- Steve Law also composed the music for the dance production Distance, a collaboration between Danceworks (Melbourne) and Stompin' Youth Dance Company (Launceston, Tasmania). It was performed at King's Wharf, Launceston on 22/5/1998, and at the Victorain College of the Arts, Melbourne (as part of the Next Wave festival) daily from 27/5/1998 to 30/5/1998 (two performances on 30/5). Steve Law performed the music live during all performances.
